HARVEST PICNIC
The Friends of St. Patrick’s eleventh Annual Old Fashioned Harvest Picnic is scheduled for Sunday, September 8, 2013, starting with an outdoor Mass at St. Patrick’s Heritage Park area, Maple Grove, at 10:30 A.M. This historic Irish settlement of Maple Grove and Franklin townships accounted for over 43% of the Irish in Manitowoc County in the 1880’s, and was one of the largest Irish settlements in Wisconsin. Maple Grove is located at the intersection of County Tr. G and Taus Rd. The event will include kids games, adult games, a group of young Irish Dancers, Sisters’ Kitchen full of sweets and goodies, a kolache making demonstration with sales of the freshly baked kolaches, a large Silent Auction, featuring a football autographed by the Super Bowl Winners, the Green Bay Packers, Chicken booyah, brats, hamburgers, refreshments, and fresh produce. The Irish Dancers will be performing in the early afternoon and there will be musical entertainment for rest of the afternoon. A raffle will be held with monetary prizes of $400, 2-$100, 2-$50, and 2-$25. With a total of $750 payout. Ticket prices are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and are available from members or by calling (920) 732-3462. Tickets will also be available on the grounds the day of the picnic. Drawing for the winning tickets will be held at 4:30 P.M. on the picnic day. Winners need not be present to win. In addition, there will be genealogical search help available. The Friends of St. Patrick, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established in 1992 for the purpose of preserving the rich Irish Heritage of the Maple Grove/ old St. Patrick Parish area. The group has members locally and throughout Wisconsin, but their membership also includes members from 23 different states and Canada. The Friends of St. Patrick, Inc. publishes a newsletter twice a year entitled, “THE GROVE NEWS”, which has a mailing of 250 copies.
